Antibiotic-loaded bone cement in orthopedic infection

Infection after joint replacement is a significant challenge in orthopedic surgery. A common approach is two-stage revision, in which the infected implant is removed and temporarily replaced with an antibiotic-loaded spacer.

Antibiotic-loaded cements allow local drug elution at the site of infection. The SYNICEM family includes cements and pre-formed spacers for hip, knee and shoulder.
